On the occasion of the VII International Coaches Congress of Sprint Canoeing to be held in Catoira (Pontevedra) on 26, 27 and 28 October 2018 three theoretical and practical workshops will be provided, targeted at both ATHLETES and COACHES.

FIRST WORKSHOP – Friday, 26 October 16:40 - 19:45

SPEED MEASUREMENT, STRENGHT AND POWER APPLIED TO CANOEING

Speakers:

Workshop contents (gym and canoe):

  • Automatic speed measurement and control, strength and power concerning gym activities.
  • Automatic canoe strength measurement against a resistance.
  • Automatic strength measurement applied to canoe paddles in the water.
  • Centralizing data from different workstations.
  • Theoretical support for workshop contents.
  • All attendees could see, participate and carry out a measurement with lineal encoders, rotaries and strain gauges connected to the Chronojump system.
  • Bodyweight exercises, with plate machines, racks,… will be measured in the gym.
  • It will be shown how to centralize all the available data for its display in real time, exporting and analyses.
  • Information concerning speed and strength training will be provided, as well as regarding every test and statistical used.

CORRECT TECHNIQUE AND EXECUTION OF BODYBUILDING AND STRENGHT EXERCISES: INJURY PREVENTION

Speakers:

  • Dr. JOSÉ LUÍS GARCÍA SOIDÁN (University of Vigo)

During this workshop the execution of diverse strength training and muscle extensibility exercises will be analysed, according to criteria for security and efficiency, performance maximization and injury prevention. Variables that must be managed in order to execute strength training exercises correctly will be raised, both for achieving the desired results as well as for reducing injury risk, specially shoulder and backbone injuries. A project for improving the body posture of canoeists, especially concerning pelvis, backbone and shoulder girdle, will also be addressed.

KINANTHROPOMETRY APPLIED TO CANOEING

Contents:

  • Kinanthropometry applications for the identification and tracking of sport talent concerning canoeing.
  • Anthropometric variables regarding sprint canoeing.
  • Technique and methodology to be followed for obtaining the correct anthropometric variables.
  • Interpretation of anthropometric derived variables (body composition, somatotype and proportionality) in relation with sprint canoeing.
